The Hacienda Owners Association is a proud supporter of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's 2004 Spare the Air program. This important advisory alerts Bay Area residents about those days where their efforts to reduce air pollution can make a substantial difference in regional air quality. This year's program will run from June 1rst through October 15th. Annually, over 1,800 employers participate in this important air quality effort.

Resource Workshop
Summer will soon be here and that means the Spare the Air season is just around the corner. A Spare the Air/Commute workshop is being held in San Ramon. This free 2 hour session is designed to teach you about air quality issues, commute alternatives, the Spare the Air program, and how your worksite and employees can participate. Workshop participants can learn about:
  • how to conduct a Spare the Air program at your worksite
  • the health effects of smog
  • commute programs and incentives that are available to you throughout the year
  • free materials to support your promotional efforts
The workshop will be held on April 19th from 11:30a - 1:30p at the San Ramon Community Center Terrace Room at 12501 Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon. Lunch will be provided. You may use the contact information below to register.

2004 Program
The main component of the Spare the Air program is an advisory notice that can be e-mailed directly to participants alerting them that a Spare the Air day is going to occur. Spare the Air organizers are encouraging any person interested in the program to sign up individually.  Registrants are automatically entered into a drawing for incredible prizes. New registrations are needed each year so previous participants will need to re-register to continue receiving notifications and to be eligible for this years prize drawing. Business Participation Sought
Businesses are also encouraged to join the Spare the Air program to help provide comprehensive notification services and assistance to their employees. Employers can enroll in the fax or email notification program at the following location: http://www.sparetheair.org/employer/regform.htm. Once enrolled, the Air District informs employers by fax or email or both when they are expecting a Spare the Air day. Employer coordinators are notified at approximately 1 p.m. the day before, providing them time to inform the employees at their worksite. A number of resources are available to employer participants as well. Reports, references, tool-kits and more are yours as part of the program. You may also order free materials, such as brochures, posters, and incentive items, to support your Spare the Air efforts at: http://www.sparetheair.org/employer/employer.htm. Finally, employers can gain public recognition for their Spare the Air efforts through the Leading Employers Achievement Program (LEAP). Contact Judi Goldblatt at RIDES, using the contact information below, for details.
