EAST BAY STAND DOWN

The 2008 East Bay Stand Down will be held from August 7-10 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. This important event will help veterans in nine Bay Area counties by providing services and resources to veterans and their families. Stand Down is a term used during war to describe the practice of removing combat troops from the field and taking care of their basic needs in a safe area.

Help for Veterans
Serving those who have served our nation is the primary goal of the East Bay Stand Down. To achieve this goal, participating veterans in need are placed into residential programs, employment opportunities are made available and various follow-up programs are offered immediately following a Stand Down event. To do this, a "tent city" will be set up for veterans and their families. Here, the veterans will receive food, clothing, shelter and other services. Health Care providers will be present at the Stand Down to assist with physical and mental health needs. Counselors will also be available to work with veterans regarding substance abuse, employment options, veterans' benefits and spiritual concerns.

Participation
There are several ways for Hacienda affiliates to participate. The greatest need is for financial donations, which are tax deductable, and transportation support to help deliver items that have been donated to the event. Individuals or companies can sponsor the event, a tent, sponsor and/or serve meals, or donate time or money. A number of recognition opportunities are available to event supporters. The East Bay Stand Down is funded primarily through monetary and in-kind donations, and all monetary donations will be applied to the needs of the veterans. Donations by check should be made payable to the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley-EBSD and sent to the PO Box below.
