As you may be aware, BART is currently renegotiating their union labor contracts. As a result,  there is a possibility that BART may experience an interruption to its services as early as Wednesday, July 1st. In the event of suspended service, several organizations are available to assist you with your commute.

Information Updates from BART
As of today, there is no confirmed BART service replacement. However, several different alternative bus routes that could be implemented in the event of a BART service disruption are currently in discussion. BART is posting details on service alternatives as the information becomes available. You can see the latest updates, learn about commute options and sign up for BART news releases by going to their web site at: www.bart.gov/news/articles/2009/news20090623.aspx.

Information Updates from 511.org
511.org also has a new web area with BART service updates including transit options, carpooling services and more. Information helpful to employees and employers is available for download. A list of service disruption documents are available to download at: http://rideshare.511.org/downloads/. Employers can find tips to help their employees at: http://rideshare.511.org/images/newsletter/511_employer_tips_BART_061809.pdf  and commuters can find helpful tips by visiting: http://rideshare.511.org/images/newsletter/511_commuter_tips_BART_061709r.pdf.

Sign up for a Carpool
Carpooling will be an obvious choice for many BART riders in the event of a strike. 511 Rideshare can help employees get to work by helping them find a carpool or vanpool. Commuters are encouraged to use the free 511 RideMatch Service at http://rideshare.511.org/ridematch/. This interactive, on-demand program matches commuters with similar routes and schedules to find carpool partners or a vanpool group. Upon receiving your commute matches, simply contact the people on the list to make your arrangements. If you would like additional assistance, feel free to contact LaShawn Martin at 511 at: martin@rideshare.511.org or call (510) 273-3610 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Need Additional Help Planning your Commute?
511, the Bay Area's traveler information number, provides connections to over 20 transit  operators. In the event of a BART strike, 511 will provide detailed messages about available transit services before callers are given more options to connect directly with the transit agencies.  511 also provides 24/7 information about Bay Area traffic conditions.  An extensive source of information on transit is also available at www.511.org, and a transit trip planner, which will help you to plan your trip door to door, is available at http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc. Additional resources may be found on Hacienda's web site under our resource section and through the Tri-Valley Transportation Guide.
