The East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) is offering free bicycle safety classes this spring where you can learn how to safely drive a bike. The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is a group promoting bicycling as an everyday means of transportation and recreation.

Urban Cycling 101 Classroom and Road Class
Through a special two-part course, bike riders can learn all about safe bike riding. The course works as follows:

Day One: Classroom Workshop     The Day 1 Traffic Safety 101 Classroom Workshop will consist of a classroom course where participants will learn basic rules of the road, how to equip your bicycle, fit your helmet, take a bike on transit, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with other road users by your actions and signals. This class is designed for adults 14 years and over and no bike is needed for this portion of the class. Day one classes are being offered throughout the Bay Area during April, May and June including a class in Dublin on April 28th. Please visit www.ebbc.org/safety for full details and to sign up for a class online.

Day Two: Road Class      The On-Road Instruction class will consist of a half day of bike riding that provides an opportunity to put into practice what was learned in the Classroom Workshop. This is an on-your-bike practice session, working in small groups with certified instructors to improve your handling skills, learn crash-avoidance maneuvers, and ability to ride confidently and safely on any street. Drinks and snacks are provided. This class does require a bicycle. The next day two class is currently schedule for May 5th in Dublin. Please visit www.ebbc.org/safety for full details and to sign up for a class online. The East Bay Bicycle Coalition will be giving out free bike lights for those completing both classes.

In conjunction with the upcoming Bike to Work Day, Hacienda Owners Association is hosting a lunchtime commuter workshop at the Hacienda Owners Association's office on May 1st from 12-1 pm. The Association is located at 4473 Willow Road, Suite 105 in Pleasanton. This interactive classroom course is perfect for introducing your employees to the concepts of bike safety and encouraging a healthy commute. Each class is hosted by a League of American Bicyclists - certified safety instructor, who will teach the basics of bike commuting, crash avoidance, and bicyclist rights and responsibilities. You will also learn how to outfit your bike, how to take a bike on transit and how to be safe while having fun. This workshop is free but pre-registration is requested by calling (510) 845-7466 x2 or online at www.ebbc.org/safety.
