Livingston Brings Cycle Race to Hacienda

Almost 400 Riders Expected to Participate on Saturday, July 12

Hacienda's Livingston Enterprises, market leaders in communications services used by Internet service providers, is sponsoring a criterium bike race with the Valley Spokesmen Racing Team on Saturday, July 12.

"This kind of race is called a criterium, which is a race held on a circuit of less than one mile and held for a preset duration, usually an hour," says team director Ken Hernandez. "Spectators are welcome - the Bay Star Baking Co. will be giving away bagels to racers and spectators."

Racing begins at 8:30 a.m., with categories including women, seniors, masters, juniors, and kids. There will be a special, free race for kids ages 10 to 14 from 11:45 to 12:15.

A New Sponsor

In addition to sponsoring the race, this is Livingston's first year as a major sponsor of the Valley Spokesmen Racing Team. The 40-member team is a specialized group within the 600-member Valley Spokesmen Touring Club, says Hernandez.

"Livingston has been very supportive," he says. The racing team uses Livingston's facilities for their meetings, among other benefits. Several Livingston executives have been presented with Valley Spokesmen racing jerseys in recognition and appreciation of their efforts.

Race Day Festivities

Between 350 and 400 people are expected to participate in the races, reports Hernandez. Hernandez recommends viewing the race near the start/finish line in front of the Livingston offices, at 4464 Willow Road. The course, seen at left, will form a loop within Hacienda along West Las Positas Boulevard, Hacienda Drive, Gibraltar Drive, and Willow Road.
