Logicon Marking Ten Years in Hacienda
IT Services Company Finds Customer Service is the Key to Longevity

A lot has changed in the ten years since Logicon, then known as Grumman Systems Support Corporation (GSSC), first moved into their offices on Stoneridge Drive. 

The company, which provides third-party computer maintenance and related services, has been the subject of a number of transactions. Parent company Grumman Corp. was acquired by Northrop and became Northrop Grumman. In 1997, Northrop Grumman acquired Logicon, which became the information technology (IT) sector of the company and gave GSSC its new name. 

The company's name, of course, is not all that's changed in the last ten years. 

"The business has changed tremendously -- we've expanded most of what we do," says Karen Ellis, area manager. "Back then, I think most of what we worked on was DEC equipment. We've had to expand our product lines because the industry changes so fast." 

"Today, we work on equipment from Sun, HP, IBM, Compaq, DEC, Dell -- practically every manufacturer of computing systems of significance," adds Mike McElroy, Northwest area director. 

The ability to grow and keep pace with today's technology has been a key to the company's growth. 

The company's nationwide footprint is another. Their Hacienda office, which provides services to the entire Bay Area and also serves as the company's western regional headquarters, is one of their 130 offices throughout the U.S. Many of their customers are large businesses with a number of different locations. 

"A lot of companies are attracted to us because we're nationwide," explains McElroy. "For example, if a company here has offices in 14 other cities, we're a good alternative to a local vendor."

One thing that hasn't changed, however, is the company's commitment to meeting the needs of their customers. 

"Some of our biggest customers are ones we had (when we moved here)," Ellis explains. "They have been so satisfied with our services that they haven't wanted to go anywhere else." 

With prestigious customers like Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Apple Computer, Synopsys, and Cadence Design Systems, they're clearly doing something right.
