One-Stop Career Center Helps Local Employers Find the Employees they Need

The One-Stop Career Center provides a wide variety of employment services for local employers. Whether the business is small and family-owned or large and multi-national, the center has services tailored for any size.

The One-Stop has recently relocated to a larger facility on Mohr Avenue to provide more of those services. The Pleasanton center operates under East Bay Works, a partnership of public, non-profit, and private organizations providing employer and employee services.

Mark Mithaiwala, the business services representative for the Pleasanton One-Stop, is eager to work with local employers.

He notes that the center can provide customized employer workshops on site at their businesses that cover topics including labor market information, incentive tax-credits for hiring, employee training, development and retention, and useful information on the costs of employee turnover.

He adds that "the One-Stop can also help with training through our partnered organizations."

Mithaiwala and his staff are also available to conduct pre-screening of applicants, skills assessment, work experience validation, and provide job categories by skill and experience. Employers can also set up a mini job fair on site at the One-Stop to interview and talk with potential employees.

"We have a great deal of information, especially for the small business community as they can't afford a human resources department. At our One-Stops, we can work with them to meet their needs."

Mithaiwala says that the center serves the employment community and labor force. He says that employers are often surprised to find that the center has a database of potential employees from all employment sectors, including the high-tech industry.

To make it easier for an employer to attract employees, the center also has a web site at www.caljobs.ca.gov where employers can post jobs at no cost. In fact, there are no fees for any One-Stop services.

In addition, the East Bay Works web site at www.eastbayworks.com features links that allow employers access to valuable information about economic development assistance, business laws and regulations, licenses and permits, online publications, and forms, as well as required posters for the workplace, tax forms, labor market information and government agencies.

"Employers are welcome to contact us. We are happy to work with them," notes Mithaiwala.
