  • Trapeze Networks, the Hacienda-based manufacturer of the award-winning wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System, has formed a long-term alliance and development relationship with Nortel, a leading network equipment supplier. Trapeze and Nortel will work together to deliver an integrated wireless LAN portfolio optimized for voice, multimedia and data applications as part of a shared vision for enterprise mobility. The alliance is focused on three areas: bringing an OEM version of Trapeze’s WLAN portfolio to market through Nortel’s worldwide channels, co-developing new WLAN features to deliver pervasive mobility, and embedding Trapeze’s technology into Nortel communications platforms to deliver a seamless wired and wireless network. “Trapeze’s vision of pervasive mobility is 100 percent aligned with Nortel’s future plans and we are excited to be working together to bring new mobility solutions to market,” said Atul Bhatnagar, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Data Networks, at Nortel. “Trapeze’s scalable architecture, strong support for voice and multimedia, sophisticated RingMaster lifecycle management tool suite, and the robustness and portability of its Mobility System Software were the drivers in making this relationship a reality.” “Nortel is a leader in wireless with a major presence in the enterprise,” said Jim Vogt, president and CEO of Trapeze Networks. “This alliance gives customers a complete and compelling product portfolio as well as essential service and support capabilities worldwide.”
  • A number of Hacienda companies were recognized as the most valuable in the East Bay by the Contra Costa Times. Safeway was ranked fourth, with a market capitalization of over $8 billion. The list also included Ross Stores at number eight, The Cooper Companies at 11, and Polycom at 15. Each of the companies also ranked in the newspaper’s ranking of the 100 most valuable Bay Area companies.
  • The largest privately-held paper distributor in the U.S., Unisource, has received SmartWood certification for its largest fine paper division in Addison, Illinois. The certification recognizes Unisource for offering paper that comes from forests managed to protect wildlife habitat and invigorate communities. SmartWood, a program of the Rainforest Alliance, is an independent, third-party certifier accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the global body that sets standards for responsible forest management. Unisource hopes the certification will increase interest in the marketplace. “We will be educating our customers, who are primarily commercial printers," says Andrew Dembitz, director of specification. “Our sales force is being proactive about letting our printers and corporate clients know that certification is something worth investigating.” Unisource SmartWood-certified papers are sold and distributed through the company’s 389,000 square foot Hacienda location.
