Health Care Facilities and Practitioners Meet Community Needs

Whether selecting a business or residential location, the quality and availability of medical care typically play a large role in the decision-making. The Tri-Valley has attracted world-class health care facilities and top-notch medical professionals to meet the gamut of community needs, from disease education to diagnostic facilities to urgent care and surgery centers.

Axis Community Health provides medical, mental health, substance abuse counseling, and health education services to residents of the Tri-Valley, regardless of ability to pay. Medical clinics in Pleasanton and Livermore (3311 Pacific Avenue) offer adult, pediatric and geriatric medical care, women's health, obstetrics, immunizations, family planning, and pregnancy and TB testing. Its WIC nutrition program is housed at 1991 Santa Rita Boulevard, Suite H in Pleasanton. Axis Behavioral Health, located at 6666 Owens Drive, offers mental health services, a teen drug and alcohol program, and a DUI program. Facilities at 446 Lindbergh Avenue in Livermore offer adult drug and alcohol services. Axis provides certified pre-employment and DOT (Dept. of Transportation) testing and is a Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities (CARF)-accredited agency offering outpatient drug and alcohol recovery programs.

This family practice group offers complete family care and checkups, occupational medicine, sports medicine, preventive care and immunizations, women's health, and urgent care. Industrial medicine services include Workers Compensation treatment and acute injury care. Founded in 1912, Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland is one of only 45 freestanding children's hospitals in the nation that is not connected to a university or other institution. A regional and global resource for advanced pediatric care, research, and medical education, Children's has Northern California's most active pediatric trauma center, the region's busiest pediatric intensive care unit, and one of the largest sickle cell treatment and research centers in the world. Its hospital-based physicians provide expert care in 30 pediatric subspecialties, from adolescent medicine to urology. The 10,000 square foot facility is a dual imaging center with "best-of-breed" technology. The multi-modality imaging center features a high-field MRI, 16-slice CT, a high-resolution GE 16-slice PET/CT scanner, ultrasound, and DEXA (bone densitometry). NorCal's state-of-the-art Women's Imaging Center offers digital mammography, breast MRI, breast ultrasound, and special procedures: stereotactic, MR-guided, and ultrasound-guided biopsies; ductograms; and fine needle aspirations.

Part of the ValleyCare network, this facility has just installed an Automated Breast Volume Scanner, a dedicated imaging system that provides automated 3D ultrasounds of the entire breast in 10 to15 minutes. The center also offers digital mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and ultrasound guided biopsy.

The Ryan Comer Cancer Resource Center, within the Library, focuses on material relating to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

The state-of-the-art Hacienda Surgery Center is a 14-bed multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgical Center. With three operating rooms and two procedure rooms, it has the ability to offer orthopedic, gastroenterology, ENT, and spinal surgical procedures. Open since late 2008, the center services over 300 patients per month. Its staff works closely with Tri-Valley Orthopedic Physicians and other specialty surgeons to deliver comprehensive care to patients.
