RECYCLED WATER STUDY
The City of Pleasanton is studying the use of recycled water for irrigation, commercial and industrial purposes. An analysis of demand in Pleasanton has identified Hacienda properties as practical candidates for conversion of irrigation systems from potable drinking water to recycled water.
The City of Pleasanton is embarking on a recycled water feasibility study to determine the potential for using recycled water, primarily for irrigation purposes, to reduce the demand on potable drinking water supplies. The study will identify potential sites for recycled water use, analyze needed infrastructure facilities and alternatives, estimate capital cost requirements and forecast operations and maintenance needs. The use of recycled water is governed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). CDPH issues permits to help insure that use of recycled water complies with all public health regulatory requirements. Recycled water is used extensively throughout California and the United States, and is considered a safe, reliable, drought-proof resource. In fact, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, and many other neighboring areas have been successfully using recycled water for purposes similar to those Pleasanton is considering for about 10 years. Generally, the billing rate for recycled water is expected to be equal or less than the cost of potable water.
Business Input Sought
The City of Pleasanton is seeking Hacienda's assistance in the feasibility study. Requests seeking expressions of interest from potential study participants were recently sent out to Hacienda projects. Those property managers who would like to participate in the study are encouraged to contact Pleasanton city staff using the information below. Likewise, if you have any questions about recycled water in general, or the purpose, focus or timing of the study, please also feet free to contact the city's representative. An informational meeting will be held this summer that will provide additional details.
Additional information on this program and other Pleasanton water conservation programs is available. Please refer to the City of Pleasanton contact below for details.
