Windbond Delivers Best-in-Class Quality Memory Devices

A presence in the Bay Area since 1993, Winbond Electronic Corporation opened its Hacienda office in November 2017. Winbond is a globally known semiconductor company that specializes in DRAM and Flash memory used by diversified electronic devices.

While they are critically important in the IT industry and other industrial applications, memory chips have also become important in less obvious areas. This trend will only continue with the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), as an increasing number of products and devices become connected to the Internet.

"We think of memory chips as a thing that goes into your PC," says Rani Cardinaux, Director of Human Resources for Winbond Electronics Corporation America. "I don't think people realize they are in your desk phone, in your car, in your speakers, in your wearables. What we build also goes into everyday consumer products."

Winbond is a specialty memory IC company engaged in design, manufacturing, and sales services. Winbond's major product lines include Specialty DRAM, Mobile DRAM, and Code Storage Flash Memory.

Winbond specializes in the design of high-performance, low-power memory. With a 12-inch fab, it offers a whole series of specialty DRAM and mobile DRAM products that target a top-tier clientele and quality-oriented applications. Winbond's products are used extensively in handheld devices, consumer electronics and computer peripherals. The corporation also focuses on high-barrier, high-quality applications, such as KGD (Known Good Die), automobile, and industrial electronics. Winbond's long-standing efforts in quality assurance have earned it a good reputation and resulted in the accreditation of ISO 9001, TS 16949, QC 080000, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001.

The corporation's Flash memory packages offer features such as low pin count, small size, and low cost. It also offers SPI NAND and SLC NAND flash memory products to better meet the customer demands for code storage. Winbond also actively develops a diversity of flash memory products for applications in mobile devices, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, IoT, and wearable devices. Winbond also produces the pioneering TrustME Secure Flash Memory, which has been Common Criteria EAL 5+ certified for applications in enhanced system security.

While Winbond is known for its high-quality, innovative memory products, the corporation also focuses on the well-being of its employees. The new Hacienda office was opened partly in response to the growing challenge of congested traffic and high housing costs in the Silicon Valley. Until recently, Cardinaux worked at the Winbond's office in San Jose. Cardinaux and 17 other employees have relocated to the Hacienda office, which can support up to 40 employees as the corporation grows.

"I love that the company as a whole said what can we do to make our company better for our employees and for our future growth," says Cardinaux. "Given how bad the traffic was in San Jose, I think it was really forward thinking of the chairman to say we should think about five or ten years down the road."

Cardinaux notes the commute to Hacienda is much easier for employees. On the first day in the new office, "the joy on their faces was apparent," Cardinaux says. "It's like a new lease on life. You've gotten back all this time that you were just wasting."

Winbond was established in September 1987 and listed on Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1995 with headquarters in Central Taiwan Science Park, Taichung, Taiwan. To provide timely and respective services to clients around the world, Winbond has set up operations and distributor networks in the USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Israel.
