State Farm Helps Customers Protect What Matters

A.J. Amstrup has owned and operated his own insurance agency for the past six years. The State Farm insurance agent is a third-generation State Farm agent; four other family members are also State Farm agents.

"I chose to be a State Farm agent because I believe it is an outstanding company to work with in regards to its financial strength and the products it provides," says Amstrup. "State Farm is the largest insurance company in the US and Canada. It has grown to that size from the personal production of other State Farm agents and not by acquisitions and mergers."

State Farm helps its customers focus on three goals: protecting their interests by choosing the right coverage, helping them save money for the future, and making things as easy as possible, according to Amstrup.

"When it comes to the insurance industry there is a lot of talk about cost, but not about the right coverage," says Amstrup. "In order to be covered for the unexpected, you need to pay for the right coverage. This means reviewing your policies to make sure that if your home burns down or you cause a car crash your insurance company pays the bill and not your bank account. This is even more important to discuss since the Santa Rosa fires and mudslides in Montecito have destroyed a lot of homes and lives." When one customer's husband passed away suddenly, Amstrup was able to deliver a check to her in two days.

"Customers put a lot of emphasis on their material possessions, such as their home or cars, but the most important thing is the people inside your car or home," he says. "We try to help customers make the proper plans, so they don't have to think about it again in the future.

"At our agency we take pride in our ability to provide a check as soon as possible for our customers when they lose a loved one, and we make sure we hand deliver all the checks and personally take care of any paperwork that our company requires. We understand that losing a loved one is horrible, and that is why we make sure they don't have to do any extra work to get the help they deserve and need."

When it was time to open his agency, Amstrup wanted his office in an area that was centrally located to the Bay Area and in a great community. "Pleasanton and the Hacienda area were a perfect combination of a great town and location," he says. The State Farm office at Hacienda typically has three employees.

Amstrup is currently the co-chair of the Pleasanton Young Professionals group with the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. Each year the group holds a charity event called "Charity on Tap!" to benefit one local charity. "Last year we raised over $8,000 to provide to the 4H leadership of the Bay Area," he says. The group will be holding another event in September and is currently choosing a new local charity.
