Plex Manufacturing Cloud Offers Big Benefits to the Shop Floor

Plex Systems pioneered enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for manufacturers. The company's cloud solutions for the shop floor connect suppliers, machines, people, systems, and customers with capabilities that are easy to configure, deliver continuous innovation, and reduce information technology costs.

With insight that starts on the production line, Plex helps companies see and understand every aspect of their business ecosystems, enabling them to lead in an ever-changing market. The Plex Manufacturing Cloud connects everyone and everything in order to drive production, quality control, and improve productivity.

"We are proud to be one of the first cloud ERP companies in the world," says Dave Michaud, Chief Marketing Officer. "We help companies from Fortune 500 automotive suppliers to artisan ice cream makers gain visibility into every step of their manufacturing process, extending and connecting insights from the top floor to the shop floor. This means that at any given moment, everyone from the plant floor operator to the CEO has access to real-time data and information, helping fuel better business decision-making."

As Michaud notes, the manufacturing industry is facing a period of enormous change as well as opportunity. Manufacturers are in the midst of Industry 4.0, the industrial revolution referred to as the Industrial Internet of Things, which is characterized by the convergence of the physical and the digital. For manufacturers, the resulting connectivity is delivering the opportunity to connect more people, systems, and machines with external parties such as suppliers and customers.

For those outside of manufacturing, the benefits offered by Plex's solutions may sound abstract. For those working inside the industry, those benefits are concrete and sometimes highly personal. The controller at client Wisco Industries, for example, had been unable to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday for nearly 35 years because of fiscal year-end inventory checks.

"After the company implemented Plex, the controller was able to celebrate that holiday with his family for the first time in over three decades," says Michaud.

The solutions offered by Plex make many manufacturing processes faster and easier, including shop inventory and customer audits. The company also continues to innovate. In July 2018, Plex acquired DATTUS, Inc., a leader in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity technologies, to accelerate Plex's own IIoT strategy and extend the Plex Manufacturing Cloud to new streams of machine data and their underlying intelligence. This will give Plex customers additional benefits, which is no accident.

"The company's founders were passionate problem solvers who all happened to work for a manufacturer," says Michaud. "When they couldn't find an ERP system that fit their business's needs, they decided to build their own. That was back in 1995. Since its humble beginnings, Plex has grown to serve hundreds of manufacturers in thousands of plants all around the world. The originality, grit, and focus remains key to Plex's culture and drives our ability to problem-solve for manufacturers' unique needs."

The Hacienda office, which has 15 employees, is one of many offices maintained by Plex, which is headquartered in Troy, Michigan. Plex opened the Hacienda office in 2013.

"The Hacienda community is important because so many of our team members call it home," says Michaud. "These individuals help make Plex the ERP and manufacturing execution system of record for award-winning manufacturers."
