Tri-Delta Transit to Offer New Commuter Route on Trial
Basis for Hacienda
 |
|
Well-equipped commuter buses will provide a luxurious ride.
|
Commuters from Antioch, Oakley, Brentwood and Byron will have the opportunity
to get out of their cars and into comfortable, air-conditioned state-of-the-art
buses for a relaxing ride to Hacienda, thanks to a two-week trial offered
by Tri-Delta Transit.
The eastern Contra Costa County transit agency will be running a free
trial commuter service from its local communities to Hacienda from June
4-15. If sufficient demand is seen, the route could become a permanent
offering.
It promises to be a luxurious ride. The buses are equipped with luggage
racks, airline-style seating, reading lights, foot rests, radio and CD
player plug-ins at every seat, VHS video players and televisions, and bike
racks.
The Goal: A Pleasant Commute
Tri-Delta Transit wants to give riders a pleasant commute. Tania Judkins,
marketing coordinator for Tri-Delta Transit, believes that commuters will
enjoy the service.
"We know there is a great need for commuter service to the Livermore
and Pleasanton areas as there is no bus service from Eastern Contra Costa
County. Our service gives people a chance to get out of their cars and
it takes away the stress of driving and traffic."
Route Starts in Antioch
In the morning, the bus will begin picking up passengers in Antioch
at 6:14 a.m. at the Hillcrest Park and Ride Lot at the corner of Hillcrest
and Highway 4. The bus will continue with stops in Oakley, Brentwood, and
Byron, making its last pickup at 6:48 a.m.
Arriving in the Tri-Valley, the bus will service ACE train riders with
a stop in Livermore at 7:26 a.m. The first drop-off point in the park is
at 7:49 a.m. at Rosewood and Owens drives. Passengers will be dropped off
at five stops in Hacienda, followed by the final morning drop off at Hopyard
Road and Stoneridge Drive at 7:55 a.m.
Judkins says that the goal of the bus service is to have employees to
work by 8:00 a.m. and to pick them up after work at 5:00 p.m.
The return route at night begins with the first pickup at Hopyard and
Stoneridge Drive at 5:10 p.m. and follows the morning route in reverse,
with the last pickup is at Rosewood and Owens Drive at 5:16 p.m.
After stopping in Livermore, the bus arrives in Byron at 6:01 p.m.,
Brentwood at 6:13 pm., Oakley at 6:25 p.m. and in Antioch at 6:35 p.m.
Commuters Asked to Sign Up Now
Judkins asks that those interested in riding should call and sign up
for the service. This will give the agency an idea of the number of people
who will be participating and whether there is a need for an extra bus.
