- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has
approved Roche Molecular Systems’ Cobas AmpliScreen HBV Test for use as
a screening test for the detection of Hepatitis B in donated whole
blood, blood components, source plasma and other living donors. The
test is the first nucleic acid test designed for screening whole blood
for HBV to be approved by the FDA. The approval follows a 2004 vote by
the Blood Products Advisory Committee of the FDA which recommended that
the test be licensed.
- Polycom has introduced two new judicial solutions
based on its flagship VSX group video conferencing and collaboration
platform, which features TV-like video quality, near-CD quality
StereoSurround sound, and AES encryption. Known as the Judicial VSX
Collaboration Systems, the Polycom Judicial Cart and Polycom Judicial
Wall Unit are specifically designed for the unique requirements of
judicial, legal and penal environments. The units provide judges, legal
professionals, court officials, inmates and witnesses with an
efficient, cost-effective and safe process for deposition, trials, and
consultations.
- AdventNet, Inc. has released version 4.2.0 of its
ManageEngine WiFi Manager, a software product which adds support for
DLINK, SMC, and Linksys Wireless Access Points and Routers. The latest
version of WiFi Manager will provide IT departments at small and medium
enterprises the ability to seamlessly secure, configure, and monitor
wireless networks with multi-vendor Wireless LAN hardware. In addition
to the access points and routers, WiFi Manager also now supports
wireless access gateways from Nomadix. This enables Wireless ISPs using
Nomadix solutions to leverage the benefit of centralized network
management at an affordable price point.
- Hacienda’s Bivio Networks has received $16.5 million
in its fourth round of funding, including investors like Goldman Sachs,
InterWest Partners, Storm Ventures, and Venrock Associates. Bivio has
now received a total of $54 million in financing. The company will use
the additional funds to continue work on their multi-gigabit network
appliances, which feature a groundbreaking architecture optimized for
wire-speed execution of software-based network services.
- InnerWorkings has secured $8.8 million in financing
from Benchmark Capital Europe and Mohr, Davidow Ventures (MDV). The
company will use funds from this Series A round to accelerate its
R&D capabilities in Ireland and expand its sales, marketing, and
client services organizations in the U.S. InnerWorkings, which
has its headquarters in Hacienda, is a software company that creates
unique practice-based learning solutions that present real-world coding
and application design techniques, thereby providing true visibility
into developer performance.
