TV30 Focuses on the Tri-Valley to Bring
Viewers Daily News and Other Original Programming
A daily news program and original programming on local lifestyles,
culture, and events is not what people expect from community
television. Just as the Tri-Valley area is not an ordinary community,
however, TV30 is not a typical community station.
“TV30 is a true community station,” says executive director Glenn
Davis. “We focus on events, people, and things that are happening right
here in the Tri-Valley area. Our focus is Tri-Valley only, so we target
the four cities of Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, and Livermore.”
TV30’s programming is divided among three channels. Channel 28 provides
coverage of local school board meetings while channel 29 airs local
city council meetings and other government-related events. Davis calls
channel 30 “our flagship station,” and that is where viewers find the
programming that TV30 is best known for.
Chief among those is the TV30 News, a half-hour program whose reporters
and writers focus exclusively on the Tri-Valley. With a brand new set
and a recent Telly Award for best news program in the country, it’s
easy to see why Davis refers to the show as “our signature program.”
Fans of local school sports will want to check out Tri-Valley Sports
Final for highlights and a wrap-up of the area’s high school sports
action.
“We also do a show called ‘Everything Local,’ which is an in-the-field
kind of an evening magazine hosted by Eboni Warnking,” says Davis.
“Eboni goes out into the world and she finds out what’s happening,
what’s exciting, what’s odd and what’s interesting.”
The station also features a literary review program called “In a Word,”
a show on downtown Livermore called “Livermore Life,” and many other
original features. One of the station’s longest running shows is “The
Mayors Report,” which is produced every other week and features
one-on-one interviews with Tri-Valley mayors highlighting current
events and activities in their cities.
Davis is constantly searching for ideas for new shows as well. “Some of
our best ideas for programming don’t come from within the station—they
come from outside the station—so I am always open to hearing new ideas
for programming. One of the things that we’ve been thinking about is a
high-tech show that is home grown. I’m also looking for opportunities
to work with high-tech industry and get them on our existing
shows like ‘Everything Local.’”
It’s not just high-tech companies that interest Davis, though. He wants
to hear from any business where exciting things are happening. “I’d
like to have the opportunity to meet with those people and to talk with
them about what’s going on in their businesses.” TV30 also has
underwriting opportunities for businesses interested in supporting the
station financially.
The station’s three channels are available via Comcast in the
Tri-Valley and are now broadcast into over 60,000 homes in the area.
