- As
part of the company’s celebration of Earth Day, Shaklee chairman and
CEO Roger Barnett was joined by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and 2004
Nobel Prize winner Dr. Wangari Maathai for the planting of Shaklee’s
millionth tree to commemorate the culmination of Shaklee’s “A Million
Trees, A Million Dreams” campaign.
The
initiative was launched in April, 2006, with a goal of offsetting a
significant portion of the carbon dioxide the company produces in
conducting business and to raise public awareness of global climate
change. Many of the trees were planted through Dr. Maathai’s Green Belt
Movement, which began mobilizing the women of Kenya to plant trees to
conserve the environment in 1976. “Shaklee led the way in achieving
carbon neutrality in 2000 and has mobilized its networks to plant a
million trees for the planet, which is not only a great achievement,
but an inspiration to all of us,” said Dr. Mathaai. “What you’re doing
here is extraordinary,” added Gov. Schwarzenegger. “Shaklee is about
inspiring others.”

that companies can build long term successful businesses by helping
millions of people have better health and more income, while making a
meaningful impact on the world,” said Shaklee’s Barnett. The company
also used the occasion to launch a new campaign, “A Million Healthier
Lives in 2009.” - 1st United Services Credit Union,
