BIKE TO WORK EVENTS
The San Francisco Bay Area's 15th Annual Bike to Work Day will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2009. Bike to Work Day is the premier bicycling event taking place in all of Northern California with all nine Bay Area counties participating in the celebration. The event is just one day of many events taking place in May as part of National Bike Month. Take the healthy commute and join thousands of Bay Area commuters as they bike to work or to transit.
On May 14th, Energizer Stations will be set up all over the Bay Area to celebrate Bike-to-Work Day. Hacienda will participate in an Energizer Station at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station co-sponsored by Hacienda, the City of Pleasanton, the City of Dublin, Alameda County Public Works, Dublin Cyclery and BART. The first 250 cyclists to stop by the Dublin/Pleasanton Energizer Station will receive a free Cycling Commute Companion; a canvas tote bag filled with great cycling gear and more. Participating cyclists can also receive a free bike safety check courtesy of Dublin Cyclery. The Energizer Station will be open between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the plaza area just outside the turnstiles. The Dublin/Pleasanton BART station sits in the middle of Interstate 580 and is easily accessed by Owens Drive from Pleasanton and by Dublin Boulevard from Dublin.
Bike Safety Class
Learn to drive a bike with a free urban bike safety class. Classes will be held throughout the Bay Area in April, May and June. This classroom course teaches street skills including the basics of safe cycling, riding in traffic, equipment, crash avoidance, rights and responsibility. A second day of instruction will consist of a 6 hour on-road course to practice what was taught in the street skills class. For more information on the classes or to sign-up, please contact Dave Campbell at firstname.lastname@example.org or at the Berkeley Bikestation (510) 548-7433.
The Joseph Mendes Criterium
The East Bay Cyclists and InfoVista Cycling will be hosting a series of bike races on Saturday May 9th in conjunction with Bike to Work Day. This all day event is being held just outside of Hacienda with a course consisting of a clockwise loop formed by Franklin and Johnson Drives. For more information on the race, visit: www.ebcyclist.org or contact Ron Castia at email@example.com.
