Looking for Fine Cuisine? Try a "Taste"

The foods and wines of the area will take center stage at the 16th Annual "A Taste of the Valley," which takes place March 5 at the Hilton Pleasanton and is sponsored by companies including Hacienda's Tri-Valley Herald, Corning Photography, and Groundswell.

This year's event will feature delicious food from 37 restaurants including Girasole, Le Pleasant Jardin, and the Pleasanton Hotel. Guests will enjoy Livermore Valley wines, and vote on their favorite dishes for the People's Choice Awards.

Proceeds from the event, a perennial sell-out, benefit the Pleasanton office of the Volunteer Center of Alameda County, serving non-profit volunteer needs in the Tri-Valley area.

There will be silent auctions each session as well as cooking and art-in-action demonstrations. Drawings will offer dozens of prizes, including a Grand Prize of a three-day, two-night stay including airfare and ground transportation at the El Dorado Casino and Hotel in Reno.

A fashion show will also be presented during the Preview Tasting.

The event takes place in three sessions. The Preview Tasting, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., is $85 per person. Tickets are $50 per person for the First Tasting, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the Second Tasting, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Hilton Pleasanton is at 7050 Johnson Drive.

Event and drawing tickets are available at The Volunteer Center (call 925/462-3570) and the Lion's Club Ticket Office (phone 925/ 461-5350). Reservations are necessary.
