Great Clips Training Center Puts Stylists on the Cutting Edge

Great Clips wants every franchisee employed stylist to be passionate about the Great Clips brand, proud to work for a Great Clips franchisee, and be confident in their skills. The Great Clips Training Center at Hacienda is unknown to many outside of the organization but is an important tool for meeting those goals. One of the values that sets Great Clips apart is the importance the organization places on education.

The Great Clips learning program, for example, strives to ensure that key components of the Great Clips brand promise of Comfort, Freedom, and Connection are delivered to every customer in every salon across the United States and Canada. The learning program achieves this by combining online courses and in person training to create a cohesive, customizable, and comprehensive training and development experience focused on bringing the Great Clips brand to life. Franchisee employed stylists work with managers in their salons and then attend in person training at the Great Clip Training Center to further hone their brand understanding and technical skills.

The Training Center offers a variety of classes, all of which are focused on ensuring that franchisees and their stylists are knowledgeable and empowered in delivering the Great Clips customer care standards to the public. These trainings include a class for stylists to learn the Great Clips system and technical trainings like the proprietary Clipper Cut system. The organization also holds various meetings with Great Clips franchisees at the Training Center.

The mission of Great Clips is to help franchise owners build the most profitable salons by delivering the most powerful and enduring brand. All Great Clips salons are locally owned by franchisees, and franchisees help many stylists not only find a job, but a career. An engaging, supportive culture throughout the Great Clips system is also a priority for the leadership of Great Clips and its franchisees. That work was recognized in June when Steve Hockett, CEO of Great Clips, won a Glassdoor Employees' Choice Award honoring the top CEOs in 2019. The supportive culture as well as the core values of Great Clips are among the factors that make the organization special.

"We put integrity, passion and support into our brand to help us all succeed," says Joni Bierman, Education Services Specialist for Great Clips. "One example of our values in action is the Great Deeds program. Great Deeds is how we challenge everyone at Great Clips to remember what makes us great: the people and the communities where we live and work. Through that loyalty and support, the Great Clips system can contribute millions of dollars to great causes every year. These causes include Children's Miracle Network and the Professional Beauty Association's Cut It Out program."

The Great Clips Training Center was established at Hacienda in 1999 because of its centralized location for the organization's San Francisco market. Bierman has been with Great Clips for almost three years and is one of several staff members who work at the Training Center as needed for workshops and meetings. The Training Center is important to the organization because Great Clips franchisees are passionate about finding opportunities for their stylists to grow. And by providing quality, efficient haircuts, stylists keep customers returning.

In addition to the Great Clips Training Center, "two Great Clips salons are also close to the Hacienda community," notes Bierman. One Great Clips salon is in Pleasanton at Pleasanton Gateway. Another Great Clips salon is located at the Shops at Waterford in Dublin.
