The Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA), operator of the WHEELS bus system, is conducting a series of public workshops and a public hearing to receive comments on a proposal to make significant but selective modifications and reductions to its fixed-route service recommended for fall 2010 and January 2011. Discussions will also include the launch of the Rapid bus line, a service that will greatly increase service in the Tri-Valley.

Transit Workshop Information

LAVTA is hosting two upcoming transit workshops to discuss proposed route changes. At these informal meetings, LAVTA staff will make a brief presentation, distribute map and schedule information, and be available to meet one-on-one to discuss your service questions. The public is encouraged to attend and learn more about the upcoming schedules, and to provide feedback regarding the changes and transit service in the Tri- Valley. The next public workshop has been scheduled for Friday, June 11th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Livermore Community Center located at 4444 East Avenue. A second meeting is being held on Tuesday, June 15th from 5:30 pm to 7:45 pm at the Pleasanton Veteran's Hall located at 301 Main Street.

Public Hearing

A public hearing has also been scheduled. The public hearing is being held on Monday, June 7th at 4:00 pm at LAVTA's administrative offices in Livermore.

Description of Proposed Service Reductions

• Route 1C - The proposal recommends that this service be discontinued. Route 12 will be rerouted to serve Dublin Boulevard between Tassajara Road and Fallon Road, providing Route 1C passengers with more service. In addition, the new Rapid service which begins in January 2011 will operate every 10 minutes during the peak commute hours on the Dublin Boulevard corridor and will provide improved service including signal priority. These proposed change would take effect in Fall 2010.

• Route 55 - The proposal recommends elimination of this service due to low ridership and the discontinuation of grant funding. This proposed change would take effect in Fall 2010.

• Routes 601, 602, and 611 - Ridership has been declining on these school tripper routes; thus current passenger loads warrant the elimination of some overflow vehicles. Neighborhoods and schools will still be served, but with fewer buses. This may result in some standees on routes similar to mainline Wheels routes. These proposed changes would take effect in Fall 2010.

• Route 612 - The proposal recommends elimination of this service due to low ridership. Proposed change would take effect in Fall 2010. Service would be restructured to maintain service to the Del Prado Park neighborhood.

• Route 10 and Rapid Bus Service - The proposed change eliminates 15 minute peak only service on Route 10 and proposes operating the Route 10 at 30 minute frequencies all day long on weekdays. This change will be made in conjunction with the launch of the new Tri-Valley Rapid which will be introduced in January 2011. The Rapid bus service will operate along East Avenue, Railroad/Stanley, Isabel/Jack London Blvd., and Dublin Blvd to the Stoneridge Mall including the Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station. The Tri-Valley Rapid will operate every 10 minutes during the peak commute hours and every 15 minutes during the non-peak hours. Overall, riders will see improved and faster service along corridors served by the Rapid. The new Rapid will serve the current BART Station as well as the soon to be opened West Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station. For more information on the Tri-Valley Rapid, visit www.trivalleyrapid.com.

• Santa Rita Road Corridor Options in Pleasanton - With the proposed reduction in Route 10 service to 30 minute all day service, a new route is proposed to maintain the current 15 minute peak service level on Santa Rita Road between Downtown Pleasanton and BART. Options will be presented for public feedback. Santa Rita Road will benefit from the same signal priority technology that the new Rapid route alignment will have, increasing the speed and convenience of service along this busy corridor.
