UPCOMING BIKING AWARDS AND EVENTS IN THE EAST BAY

The San Francisco Bay Area's Annual Bike to Work Day will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019. Join Hacienda, a Gold Sponsor of Bike to Work Day in the East Bay, in this premier bicycling event taking place throughout Northern California with special events occurring in all nine Bay Area counties. Now is the time to take an opportunity to honor bike champions through these special recognitions.

Bicycle-Friendly Business Awards

The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is now accepting nominations for their 10th Annual Bicycle-Friendly Business Awards. If you know a business that goes the extra mile to promote bicycling, or makes their workplace a welcoming place for their employees to bike to work, or provides convenient bike parking for customers or helps promote biking in other ways, nominate them for this award. Simply go to: https://bikeeastbay.org/bicycle-friendly-business-award-nominations to submit a nomination by Friday, March 8th. Each winning company receives an award certificate from the Bicycle Coalition recognizing their company as an official "bicycle-friendly business", as well as great prizes and recognition at the Bay Area's largest Bike Happy Hour Party to be held on May 12, 2019. Winners will be featured in the East Bay Express and throughout Bike Month this May. Businesses must be located in Alameda or Contra Costa County. Nominees can be businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, or even departments within larger organizations: one small, one medium, and one large business will be recognized. Previous winners will be excluded from consideration.

Bike Commuter of the Year

Every year during Bike Month, Bike East Bay recognizes two outstanding members of the cycling community - one from Contra Costa County and one from Alameda County - for their commitment to bicycling and for inspiring others to use a bicycle as regular transportation. Nomination forms for this special award will be available at www.bikeeastbay.org in early March.

Team Bike Challenge

Bike commuting does not start and end with Bike to Work Day on May 9th. You can ride all month and win prizes along the way. Join the Team Bike Challenge with friends or coworkers, and log the bike trips you take during May to rack up points. Visit bikeeastbay.org after April 1st to sign up for this year's Team Bike Challenge.
