ADP Receives Multitude of Awards for Employee-Friendly Workplace

Automatic Data Processing (ADP) is a Great Company to Work for, as Recent Awards Testify

In April, FORTUNE magazine ranked ADP at the top of its list of World's Most Admired Companies in the area of financial data services. Shortly thereafter, Diversity MBA Magazine included ADP in its fifth annual list of "50 Out Front for Diversity Leadership: Best Places for Diverse Managers To Work." The Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2010 Corporate Equality Index also cited ADP as one of the Best Places to Work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees. These accolades come on the heels of ADP's inclusion on Working Mother magazine's 100 Best Companies list of 2009, which honored the payroll services provider for actively encouraging women to move into sales management positions by offering greater workplace flexibility.

Commenting on the diversity award, ADP President and CEO Gary Butler remarked, "This recognition of ADP's commitment to creating an environment in which professionals of diverse backgrounds all feel welcome validates our company's belief that true diversity makes us stronger, more innovative, and improves business results. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is critical to our company's success and we are gratified that our diverse work environment is recognized as a best place to work."

Locally, ADP occupies a large facility at 4125 Hopyard Road. Its worldwide total employee population of 45,000 serves more than 570,000 clients around the globe.

Headquartered in Roseland, New Jersey, ADP observed its 60th anniversary last year. The company's performance in its initial area of expertise, payroll processing, remains strong: responsible for preparing paychecks for one out of every six employees in the United States, it issues roughly 52 million W2s annually. It keeps this business for a long time, too. FORTUNE magazine pointed out that the company's average client tenure is nearly 10 years, no surprise considering a deployment time that can run more than a year for a large multinational company. "You're not going to change that casually," the article quotes Butler as saying.

ADP has also expanded to become a leading provider of business outsourcing solutions, offering "the widest range of HR, payroll, tax, and benefits administration solutions from a single source." In addition, it provides integrated computing solutions to auto, truck, motorcycle, marine, and recreational vehicle dealers around the globe. These non-payroll services now account for some 40 percent of the company's annual revenue, which, for the fiscal year that just ended on June 30, hit $8.9 billion. Fourth quarter FY 2010 revenues were up four percent over the comparable period last year.

For the past four years, the company has been producing the monthly ADP National Employment Report, in partnership with Macroeconomic Advisers, LLC. Derived from actual payroll data, this highly regarded report contains unique information about employment not otherwise publicly available. Its measurements of the change in total nonfarm private employment are seen as an invaluable gauge of the nation's economy and are released two days ahead of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation Report. The next ADP report is due on September 1. It can be viewed from the company's website, www.adp.com.
