Construction on Track, Reservations Break Record for Stoneridge Creek Pleasanton

Demand for Stoneridge Creek Pleasanton, the city's long-awaited retirement community, has been so strong that the developers have boosted the number of homes currently under construction in Phase I by more than one-third - from 304 to 414. Also responding to popular request, several penthouse units have been added to the inventory.

"If we hadn't expanded, Phase I would have been sold out a year ahead of its opening," observes Troy Bourne, Vice President of Continuing Life Communities, the project owner and operator. "We are now taking reservations for the expansion, and we are close to having 70 percent of the total reserved. It's unprecedented to be that far along. We have never built a first phase this large."

The fourth-floor penthouses are the result of feedback from a number of potential buyers who found the location and program ideal but wanted more living space. Combining two condo-style units into one larger dwelling has upped the square footage and incorporated features such as higher ceilings, upgraded finish options, and huge balconies with spectacular views across the Tri-Valley.

It will still be another year before the first homes are occupied, in fall 2013, but the site is swarming with activity, which is very gratifying after nearly 10 years of development work.

"It is pretty exciting to be on site watching the buildings go up. There are hundreds of workers out there. The outlet mall is also under construction. It's been a while since we've seen so much activity," he comments. "This is the real magic of construction."

This past May, the Information Center opened a model home within its office at 5698 Stoneridge Drive in Hacienda. Representing the community's most popular floor plan, the model gives prospective buyers a great preview of their future residence and allows them to personalize the finishing touches.

Stoneridge Creek has several contractors, each a specialist in a different component of the community. The recreational amenities - sprawling steel-framed clubhouse, swimming pool with a retractable roof, movie theater, bocce and tennis courts - will be ready for the first occupants.

Of the four communities Continuing Life has built over the past 20 years, Stoneridge Creek "will be the best one we've ever done. It is extremely time consuming and expensive to put a project like this into place," Bourne points out. Part of the difficulty lies in finding a large enough parcel - Stoneridge Creek sits on 46 acres - in a highly desirable area where people want to live. "Really well-run municipalities, such as Pleasanton, are very careful about what's developed, so a project can be a decade in the making."

Reserved for seniors aged 60 and older, Stoneridge Creek will have up to another 221 homes available in Phase 2, currently in detailed design. It will also include an adjacent health center with unlimited access to assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory support accommodations.
