Pleasanton Set For Town Party

Heritage Days 1984 is finally here! Join in Pleasanton’s biggest annual event as the whole town gets ready to celebrate!

Events will begin September 14th with the Pleasanton Art League Champagne Preview, Art Show, and awards at 7:00 pm at First Nationwide Savings, 300 Main Street.

The Art Show will be open daily, during business hours, until September 22nd. However, on Friday night, $1,000 in prizes will be awarded. Also, there will be a raffle for a $500 framed oil seascape by Robert Foster.

The official kick-off for Heritage Days will actually take place on Saturday, September 15th, when the Second Annual Quiche-Pan-Man Triathlon takes place at 10:00 am at Scotland Yard, 210 Rose Avenue.

The contestants, participating by invitation only, will be judged by a panel of twelve females. Master of ceremonies will be Jay Lloyd of KKIQ. The three-man teams will be required to run, cycle, and be "real men" by virtue of their quiche-eating capabilities.

Prizes will be awarded and the winning team will ride in the Heritage Days Parade on Saturday, September 22nd.

Later on the 15th, the Kaleidoscope Bed-Race will take place at noon. The race will start at Bernal Avenue and head down to St. Mary’s Street. The race is this years major fundraiser for the Kaleidoscope Center, for the growth of children with developmental disabilities.

Sunday the 16th will be the day for The Pleasanton Heritage Days 10k and Fun Run to start from Amador Valley Athletic Club at 8:45 am. There will be food booths, and music. Entries are still open so contact AVAC.

Thursday, September 20, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, the Chamber of Commerce will hold its mixer at the Old Town Hall Museum at 603 Main Street. Although the museum has not yet been completed, this function will provide the public with an opportunity to observe its progress to date.

The mixer is being hosted by the Amador-Livermore Valley Historical Society. There will be an open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $4.00 each.

Also on hand at the mixer will be the sister city delegation from Tulancingo, Mexico. Our honored guests would be delighted to meet you at the mixer.

The judging for the business decorations and costumes will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, September 21st, as will the Concert in the Park, with the Marie Cochran Western Show, at Lions Club Wayside Park. The concert begins at 6:00 pm, admission is free. The Pleasanton Downtown Association is sponsoring this event.

Also on that date will be the Amador Center Heritage Days Wine Tasting and the Amador Center Twilight Dance. There will be food, live music, prizes, and more at the shopping center on Santa Rita Road. This event is being sponsored by the Amador Merchants Association.

The weekend of the 22nd-23rd will be the biggest of all, starting out with the Heritage Days Parade at 10:00 am on Saturday on Main Street. The parade is being co-sponsored by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and the Pleasanton Jaycees. There is no entry fee for the parade, and all entries are welcome. Applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce office.

The sister city delegation from Tulancingo, Mexico will be riding in the parade as the Grand Marshals.

From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, that day, will be the Street Fair, featuring 150 craft persons, 15 food booths, and four separate entertainment areas: Community First National Bank, Hacienda del Sol, Amador Valley Savings and Loan, and the Veterans Memorial Building.

Various entertainers will be performing all day long at these four locations. Included will be ventriloquist Ken Karter, and "Kandy" at Hacienda del Sol, 2:00 pm, and singer-musician, David Davelaar, 11 years of age from Pleasanton at 4:20 pm.

At Amador Valley Savings and Loan, the Youth Cloggers will perform at 2:00 pm, and the Pleasanton Dance Academy students will appear at 3:30 pm.

Crystal Persuasion and Standing Room Only will appear at the Veterans Hall at noon, and Pleasanton VIP Club Members will perform various piano melodies.

These events are only part of what will be taking place at the four centers on Saturday and Sunday.

For the last days of Heritage Days, Sunday the 23rd, the Heritage Days Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the Pleasanton Lions Club, will be held from 8:00 to 11:00 am at the Amador Savings parking lot.

The Heritage Home Tour will also take place on Sunday the 23rd. The event is sponsored by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, and will feature a tour of vintage homes and new homes in Old Town. There will be refreshments. Tickets are $5.00, and are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 411 Main Street.

The Street Fair, as well as the 4-H Country Fair will continue on Sunday, and there will be a concert by the Pleasanton Community Band at 2:00 pm at the Hacienda del Sol.

From noon to 5:00 pm, a wine-tasting will be held at the Veterans Building to conclude the 1984 Heritage Days celebration. Seven local wineries will be participating and there will be cheese and crackers, entertainment, and punch for the kids.

The wine tasting is being sponsored by the VIP Club, and tickets are $5.00 for a glass and three tastings. Additional tastings will be $1.00 each.

All week long, the roving jail will be circulating through town, and the sidewalk sales, business decoration contest, and Art Show will continue. So mark your calendars and join in celebrating Heritage Days!
