EAST BAY COMMUNITY ENERGY PLEASANTON PLAN CHANGE

The City of Pleasanton recently joined East Bay Community Energy. East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) is a public agency providing electricity generation for residents and businesses in the East Bay. A new rate plan has been instituted for Pleasanton that will be available for commercial customers. With EBCE, customers can choose from various power mixes or elect to remain with PG&E's mix.

Service Area

In 2018, the County of Alameda and 11 of its cities enrolled in EBCE, a not-for-profit public agency known as a Community Choice Aggregator (CCA). The City of Pleasanton is now a part of this agency which means EBCE offerings are now available to Pleasanton residents and businesses. EBCE reinvests the earnings it receives back into the community to create local green energy jobs, local programs, and clean power projects. PG&E continues to provide the electricity delivery service and bills customers. However, PG&E's charge for generating electricity has been removed and replaced by EBCE's. EBCE is governed by a board of local elected officials. Locally, Councilmember Kathy Narum currently represents Pleasanton.

New Rate Plan as of January, 2022

The cities of Albany, Dublin, Hayward, and Pleasanton have recently committed their cities to transition to renewable energy for their electricity supply. In January 2022, all commercial, residential, and municipal accounts will transition from their current plan with East Bay Community Energy to the Renewable 100 plan. This plan is made up of 100% Californian wind and solar energy at a price of 1 cent per KWh above PG&E’s default rate. Pleasanton customers retain the option to opt down to EBCE’s Bright Choice service, which is priced 1% below PG&E rates. Again, customers can change their EBCE service or return to PG&E service anytime. To change your service option or for more info, visit ebce.org/pleasanton.
