UC Berkeley Seeks Help with New Internship Program

This summer, a pilot program of the University of California Office of the President is being launched through UC Berkeley. Its goal: to give students an opportunity to develop workplace skills.

The undergraduate program has been entitled SAGE (Student Achievement Guided by Experience) Scholars. The UC SAGE Scholars Program aims to engage the business community in a partnership that fosters the development of workplace skills in a diverse student population by providing comprehensive internships linked to student fee awards.

Interns are to be selected on the bases of financial need and academic merit and will participate in ongoing career-readiness workshops given by business professionals and leaders before embarking on their internships. These SAGE Scholars will be prepared for their first internship assignment this summer.

To kick off the SAGE Scholars Program in the Tri-Valley, a breakfast meeting hosted by CarrAmerica Realty Corporation is being held on Wednesday, May 3 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the CarrAmerica Corporate Center's Tassajara Room. Professor Caroline Kane and prominent UC Berkeley deans will address the topic of attracting and retaining qualified employees.

All Hacienda companies are invited to participate. Please RSVP to Elmira Wan by calling (510) 642-2203, or by sending an e-mail. Additional information is also available from the Hacienda Owners Association at (925) 734-6500.
