  • Barclay Simpson, chairman of Simpson Manufacturing Company, received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the manufacturing category as presented by Ernst & Young. Simpson manufactures building products through its Simpson Strong Tie and Simpson Dura-Vent divisions.
  • In a cooperative effort between two Hacienda companies, Documentum, Inc. and PeopleSoft, Inc. have formed a partnership through which Documentum will provide document management capabilities for PeopleSoft's new engineering application. Under the joint development partnership, Documentum's Enterprise Document Management System will be directly accessible from PeopleSoft Engineering, which is part of PeopleSoft 7.0, scheduled for release this September.
  • In another item affecting two Hacienda businesses, Una Mas and Pollo Rey, two Bay Area Mexican restaurant chains, will merge by September in an effort to pool investments for nationwide expansion. The combined chain will focus expansion in the Chicago and East Coast markets.
  • Individual Software has been accepted as a certified Microsoft Independent Courseware Vendor by Microsoft Corporation. The designation follows the certification of Indivdual Training for Word 97, part of the Individual Training for Office 97 suite which includes training modules for Access 97, Excel 97, Outlook 97, PowerPoint 97, and Word 97.
  • Yes! Entertainment has secured U.S. and Canadian rights to sell "Teeny Weeny Families," a popular European line of miniature animal toys. Teeny Weeny Families registered retail sales in Europe exceeding $68 million since their introduction last year. The toys are expected to range between $3.99 and $19.99 in the U.S.
  • OHM Remediation Services was recognized as the largest environmental consulting firm in the East Bay by the San Francisco Business Times in their recent Book of Lists.
