  • PeopleSoft

    In a deal valued at $1.8 billion, PeopleSoft has completed its acquisition of J.D. Edwards & Company. "Today marks an important milestone in the history of PeopleSoft," said PeopleSoft president and CEO Craig Conway on July 18. "The powerful combination of PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards creates the second largest enterprise applications software company in the world. The combination expands not only our customer base, product offerings and markets, but also our talent. Our two companies share a high-performance, customer-focused culture and we look forward to welcoming our colleagues at J.D. Edwards to the PeopleSoft team." The companies also announced that Michael Maples, a member of J.D. Edwards' board of directors, was elected to the board of directors of PeopleSoft.

  • Verizon Wireless

    Verizon Wireless and Vodafone have agreed to develop a dual branded 'Verizon Vodafone' laptop data card service for business customers working and traveling between the U.S. and Europe. The data card will be based on Vodafone's successful data card service, Vodafone Mobile Connect Card, which Verizon Wireless will develop and market under license from Vodafone. The service will enable Verizon Wireless and Vodafone business customers to seamlessly access their e-mail, the Internet and corporate applications on their laptops within Vodafone's territories and Verizon Wireless' network in the US, with customers experiencing their same service environment when traveling abroad. "As Verizon Wireless and Vodafone work toward a seamless wireless data experience for business people on both sides of the Atlantic, our customers will look forward to the high-quality services and products that we've become known for in the wireless marketplace," said Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless.

  • Standard Pacific

    Standard Pacific, a nationwide home builder, continues to set new records in its financial performance. Newly released second quarter figures indicate that the company's earnings per share grew 56 percent over the same period last year as well as record homebuilding revenues of $515 million, up 16 percent from last year. Over 1,800 homes were delivered, a 28 percent increase, and new orders rose 40 percent to an historic high of 2,583 homes.

  • AdventNet Inc.

    AdventNet Inc., a provider of standards-based management software for applications and networks, has released ManageEngine Applications Manager 5, which proactively monitors and manages the health of business-specific and mission-critical Java and J2EE applications using standards-based technologies. The console monitors all components and an application deployed on the BEA WebLogic server, such as Web servers, servlets, JSPs, EJBs, databases, and presents them in intuitive dashboards and graphs. Applications Manager spans across the entire e-business infrastructure to optimize applications and maximize availability.

  • U.S. Bank

    The U.S. Bancorp Foundation, a sister organization of Hacienda's U.S. Bank, has awarded grants to 18 Bay Area organizations. Among the non-profits that will receive a portion of the $154,500 awarded are Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement of the Bay Area, Fremont Symphony Orchestra, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
