The City of Pleasanton has partnered with Rising Sun Energy to bring its California Youth Energy Services (CYES) program to Pleasanton this summer. CYES will perform free home energy assessments for Pleasanton residents between now and Thursday, August 18th.

Assessment of Your Home

If you own or rent a home in Pleasanton and would like to reduce your energy and water bills, you can get a free home assessment and installation of free energy and water efficient equipment. The CYES staff will assess your home, inside and out, pointing out where you can save water and energy and money. Your CYES home assessment includes the following:

• CYES will scout out hidden air and water leaks, or gadgets that use power even when turned off. Is that a leaky toilet? A wasteful faucet? A refrigerator door that doesn't quite close? CYES will replace your showerheads with high-pressure efficient showerheads and put aerators in your faucets so that you wash with less waste.

• CYES will replace your old light bulbs with the latest Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) free of charge. CFLs fit most fixtures and use 1/4 the energy and can last eight times longer.

• Clothes dryers are electricity hogs. Drying clothes outdoors in the California sun is better for your clothes and for the earth. CYES will install a free retractable clothesline in your yard!

• CYES will check your attic. Good insulation in your attic can save you the most money, keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Residents of certain older homes may qualify for Pleasanton's attic insulation subsidy of over 50%!

After the visit, you will receive information about other discounts and rebates on appliances, weatherization, attic insulation, and more. CYES will help guide you to the government and utility programs that match your qualifications. A personalized report of additional steps to cut down your energy and water expenses will also be provided.
