PLEASANTON, Calif. — The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce recognized Hacienda and other individuals, groups and businesses at the 51rst Annual Community Service awards on Wednesday, March 19 at the Firehouse Arts Center. Honorees chosen by the Pleasanton Chamber demonstrated excellence and community leadership in business, volunteer activities and achievement within the Pleasanton community.

Hacienda was the recipient of the Chamber's Green Business Award. The Green Business Award is given to businesses that promote sustainable environmental business practices throughout their organization for the benefit of employees, customers or the community. In making the award, the Chamber recognized Hacienda for good environmental stewardship in a number of areas including: air quality, water conservation, waste management, efficient energy use, and incorporation of sustainability principles in building design and land planning.

James Paxson, Hacienda's general manager, received the award on behalf of the development and noted that, "Hacienda would not be able to make the accomplishments it is being recognized for here today without a broad-based community effort undertaken at Hacienda's inception to design a project that could realize these benefits. The environment we enjoy that sees the widespread employment of sustainability principles, both within the park generally and at the individual businesses that make Hacienda their home, is a direct result of the collaboration that took place between Hacienda's original developers, city leaders and the community at large. Furthermore, as good as our current efforts are, there is much more that will be accomplished in the future."

The Community Service Awards began in 1963 to recognize good people doing great things in the community. Since their inception hundreds of recipients have been honored.
