PLEASANTON, Calif. — While there has been somewhat of a pause owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, limited tenant activity has continued during the second quarter of the year. Around 50,000 square feet of transactions have occurred to date since January 1 and net occupancy has increased since December 31, 2019. The park is the largest mixed-use development of its kind in Northern California.

"So far, Hacienda's second quarter occupancy remains positive over the close of the prior year. However, we have certainly not yet seen the full impacts on our local market resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and related responses" stated James Paxson, Hacienda's general manager. "Recent announcements have highlighted vulnerabilities with some tenants, most notably in the retail sector, and it is still unclear what the combined effects of business closures, whether temporary or permanent, and economic stimulus packages will have over the next several months. However, the real news to celebrate comes from the stories of what Hacienda businesses are doing to address the severe impacts created by COVID-19."

As Schools Close Due to COVID-19, Students Shift to Online Learning

Transitioning from bustling physical classrooms full of learning students to virtual spaces housed on the internet is a Herculean task for any educator. But when the state of Florida announced on March 13, 2020, that it would close schools in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Miami's Ruben Dario Middle School was primed for the challenge. As a participant in Verizon Innovative Learning, each student already had a device and data plan they could use at home, making it easier for teachers to tap into the trove of digital classroom resources they were already using so students can continue learning afar.

"Verizon provided Ruben Dario Middle School's administrators, faculty, staff and students an opportunity to transition to distance learning without any major disruption due to having devices already in hand," says Vanessa Quintana, Verizon Innovative Learning coach at Ruben Dario. "We were equipped with the experience, skills and knowledge to facilitate learning online." ... more.
