March of Dimes, GTE Mobilnet to Sponsor WalkAmerica

WalkAmerica, the first and largest of all non-profit walking events, is coming to Pleasanton! GTE Mobilnet is teaming with the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation for WalkAmerica's Pleasanton walk site on Saturday, April 26.

Pleasanton will be one of six locations for the event, which saw over 5,000 participants raise over $500,000 last year throughout the Bay Area.

"Since 1995, GTE has raised over $15,700 for WalkAmerica," says Heidi King, community direc tor for the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. "Money raised through WalkAmerica enables the March of Dimes to continue its ongoing investment in research, education, community service, and advocacy aimed at preventing birth defects and infant mortality.

"This is the kind of project that we like to be involved with," says Nancy Clark, director of market ing for GTE Mobilnet. "March of Dimes provides solid services to the community and has a real impact on the future.

"It's also a great morale boostergetting all the employees together to work on the eventand truly is a gratifying experience."

In addition to GTE Mobilnet, a number of Hacienda companies will be participating in the walk. As of early February, AT&T, Dilling-ham Construction, Farmers Insurance, Golden Grain, McWhorter's, PeopleSoft, and Wal*Mart have agreed to support the event.

"There's still time to sign up for the event," reports King. For more information, contact her at (415) 788-2202.
