Sciens Offers Complete Fire and Life Safety Solutions

Recently the Sabah International building signage on Stoneridge Drive changed to Sciens Building Solutions. Two years ago, Sabah was acquired by Sciens Building Solutions and the company is now transitioning from Sabah International, a Division of Sciens Building Solutions, to simply Sciens Building Solutions. The Hacienda office continues to operate under the same management team and in the same capacity as it has for more than 40 years, by servicing the fire and life safety needs of its clients in the Bay Area.

Sciens Building Solutions delivers complete fire detection and protection, fire suppression, electrical services, leak protection, specialty leak detection, security systems, and data communications that save lives and protect assets for businesses. The company's employees pride themselves on being the best in the fire and life safety industry. Sciens is devoted to delivering quality service and products on time and cost-effectively.

"One of the key reasons that customers turn to Sciens in Northern California is that we can provide many services under one umbrella that they would normally have to source from multiple companies," says Matt Ramsey, Division President, who has been with the company for 31 years. "We are able to bring value by performing several services during one visit, therefore minimizing business disruption. Combining multiple services often brings financial savings and allows a customer to work with one point of contact for many life safety and asset protection services."

While retrofitting and enlarging a building on its corporate campus, for example, a recent Sciens customer was required by local ordinance to design and install a fire detection system and a system for automatic fire suppression. "We were able to utilize our resources to combine these technologies and reduce the cost of installation, maintenance, and continuing compliance testing," notes Ramsey. "This provided significant long-term cost savings, over the estimated life of the system, of almost 40 percent. Complicated systems like this require the right solution, team, and technology. We pride ourselves on leading our industry in all three."

Many people don't realize that fire and life safety equipment from Sciens may be installed at their local shopping mall, hospital, university, and other commercial businesses. "Those systems are what help protect the businesses and people in those buildings from a potential fire," Ramsey says. In addition to providing those systems, the company also does everything from design to installation to testing to maintenance of these systems, according to Ramsey, who adds that Sciens can work on fire and life safety systems at any stage of their lifespans.

The company opened an office in Hacienda in 1995 because of its central location and proximity to its Bay Area client base. At the time it was known as Sabah International Incorporated. In July 2017, Sciens Building Solutions acquired Sabah's two offices, one at Hacienda and the other in Rocklin, California. Today the Hacienda office is part of the Northern California Division of Sciens Building Solutions.

The Hacienda office continues to operate under the same management team that was in place prior to the acquisition. About 85 employees work out of the Hacienda office, and another 70 employees work in the field. "We proudly continue with our strategy of steady and continuous growth and are continuously looking for the best people in the industry to join our team," notes Ramsey. "During a time in our industry where technical staff is at a premium, our ethos helps us to continually recruit and retain employees, providing stability and peace of mind for our customers."

Later this year Sciens will expand its presence at 5925 Stoneridge Drive and occupy the remaining space at its current 36,000-square foot building. The company will also celebrate its 48th anniversary of serving Northern California as "one of the most recognized life safety companies in its market," according to Ramsey.
