WALK FOR THE GOLD

Walk for the Gold is one of the premier events for Special Olympics Northern California. This non-competitive 5k walk will bring together participants of all ages throughout the Bay Area to promote the spirit of friendship and fitness.

Join in the Fun

The Walk for the Gold will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 20 at Hart Middle School in Hacienda. Join Special Olympics athletes and help reach the goal of $150,000 for this year's Walk for the Gold. Walkers help create awareness for the Special Olympics while raising money by gaining sponsorships from friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and business associates.

Corporate Community Participation

The event begins with the corporate community, but it does not stop there. Although this walk is primarily a corporate event, you are welcome to raise funds as an individual or join a community group team. Special Olympics athletes representing 17 Olympic type sports join walkers in the walk. Corporate teams consisting of 10 or more walkers register and collect pledges to walk. There is no limit to the number of walk teams a corporation or organization can have. Each team will have a designated team captain who will help recruit team members, distribute prizes, register their team on the day of the walk and turn in pledges. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Join such companies as Hacienda's ANG Newspapers, PeopleSoft and Pro Business and become a sponsor of the event.

Benefits for SONC

The Walk for the Gold raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics Northern California, East Bay Region. Special Olympics programs are offered at no expense to all eligible athletes. Training and competitions exist because of the generous support of businesses and individuals. More than 1,300 athletes participate in the East Bay, which provides year round sports training and competition in 17 Olympic type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
