SAGE SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

In today's rapidly changing business world, employers continually seek qualified and diverse college-educated candidates. However, the business community has clearly stated that a large percentage of today's graduates are not adept at basic workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, and business writing. Employers also state that graduates are lacking in professionalism and maturity. The University of California is heeding the call for change but to accomplish this, they need your help.

Introducing SAGE Scholars

UC Berkeley, Hacienda Owners Association, City of Pleasanton, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and Tri-Valley Business Council would like to introduce you to an exciting, new undergraduate program, SAGE (Student Achievement Guided by Experience) Scholars, which is currently being developed by the University of California Office of the President and piloted this summer at UC Berkeley. The UC SAGE Scholars Program aims to engage the business community in a partnership that fosters the development of workplace skills in a diverse student population by providing comprehensive paid internships linked to student fee awards. Interns will be selected on the basis of financial need and academic merit. They will then participate in ongoing career-readiness workshops given by business professionals and leaders before embarking on their internships. These SAGE Scholars will be prepared for their first internship assignment this summer.

Kick-Off Event

To kick-off the SAGE Scholars Program within the Tri-Valley, you are invited to a breakfast meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 from 7:30 to 9:00 am hosted by CarrAmerica Realty Corporation at the CarrAmerica Corporate Center's Tassajara Room, 4400 Rosewood Drive, Pleasanton.
