MOUNT DIABLO CHALLENGE

The 21st Annual Mount Diablo Challenge will take place on October 6, 2002. All proceeds raised at this event are designated to the American Lung Association.

Are you up for the Challenge?

The Mt. Diablo Challenge is a 10.8 mile bicycle race, climbing 3,249 feet up to the summit of Mount Diablo. Approximately 1,000 cycling enthusiasts compete for the coveted "Winners Jersey" and a variety of prizes. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome. Last year participant ages ranged from 7 to 80. Men, women and children can compete on any non-motorized bicycle, including tandems, uni-cycles and hand powered cycles. The Mt. Diablo Challenge finishes at the summit of Mt. Diablo with festivities, awards, health check points and sponsor displays. The grand finale is a random drawing of prizes to be held three hours after the start. All registered riders are eligible for the drawing and must be present to win.

Registration and Information

Registration begins at 7:00 am and closes promptly at 8:15 am. The starting gun is fired at 8:30 am at the Athenian School located at 2100 Mt. Diablo Scenic Boulevard, Danville. Parking is available at the Athenian School and Green Valley School. Registration for the summit challenge is $40.00 (postmarked one week prior to the event). Late registration and day of race registration is $45.00. Registration can be done online at www.active.com or mailed to the American Lung Association using the contact information below. The first 500 registrants will receive a free T-Shirt. Additional participants will receive a water bottle. Additional shirts will be for sale at the event for $10.
