Businesses can play a major role in helping local governments cut the amount of garbage going to landfills. That is why the California Integrated Waste Management Board has presented more than 6,500 awards, recognizing more than 3,000 California businesses as winners of its Waste Reduction Award.

Recognition

The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) 2002 Application period is now open through June 30, 2002. WRAP is designed to recognize companies that develop creative and aggressive programs to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. To show the State's appreciation of their efforts, winners are given an award certificate and free use of the WRAP logo for advertising and promotional use. Applicants are honored based on a set of criteria developed in cooperation with the business community. While the State cannot explicitly endorse a given business, through WRAP recognition the State can and does imply an endorsement of specific business practices. This endorsement takes the form of regional promotion through press releases to local media and can be used by the business to further its own marketing efforts.

Both a PDF and a Word version of the application are available for downloading and use from the WRAP web site. A Resource Guide is also available to assist applicants in finding resources on waste reduction practices. Both versions of the application and the Resource Guide are available at www.ciwmb.ca.gov/wrap/AppInfo/2002/Instruct.htm. Please postmark your completed 2002 WRAP application on or before the June 30, 2002 deadline. Early submissions are encouraged as no late applications will be accepted.
