EAST BAY STAND DOWN

The East Bay Stand Down 2006 will be held from August 10-13 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. This important event will provide services and resources to veterans and their families. Stand Down is a term used during war to describe the practice of removing combat troops from the field and taking care of their basic needs in a safe area.

Help for Veterans

One of the East Bay Stand Down's goals is to place as many veterans in need into continuing residential programs immediately following a Stand Down event. To do this, a "tent city" will be set up for veterans and their families. Here, the veterans will receive food, clothing, shelter and other services. Health Care providers will be present at the Stand Down to assist with physical and mental health needs. Counselors will also be available to work with veterans regarding substance abuse, employment options, veterans' benefits and spiritual concerns.

Participation

There are several ways for Hacienda affiliates to participate. Individuals or companies can sponsor the event, a tent, sponsor and/or serve meals, or donate time or money. A number of recognition opportunities are available to event supporters. The East Bay Stand Down will be funded primarily through monetary and in-kind donations, and all monetary donations will be applied to the needs of the veterans.
