TEMPORARY BART ALTERNATIVES

As you may be aware, BART is currently scheduled to go on strike beginning Monday, August 17th. Vehicle traffic is expected to increase significantly on Bay Area streets, highways and bridges if a BART work stoppage is not averted. Commuters are advised to carpool, take an alternative transit service, avoid peak driving periods by traveling earlier or later than usual, or work at home if possible.

Information Updates from BART

BART's website is the best source of official, accurate information about BART service and possible labor-related impacts on service. In the event of a strike, BART has planned to run limited bus service from five of its stations, including the Dublin/Pleasanton station, as a BART service replacement. Buses will be operating Monday - Friday with service hours between 5:00 am and 9:00 am and in the afternoon from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The fare will be $5.00 round trip and tickets will be sold from 5:00 - 9:00 am for use on the date of purchase at the Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, Walnut Creek and El Cerrito del Norte and West Oakland Stations. These tickets will be required to use all buses. Tickets will not be sold at the Fremont/Folsom location and there will be no advance sale of tickets. Additional information will be available soon and BART is posting details on service alternatives as it becomes available. You can see the latest updates, learn about commute options and sign up for BART news releases by going to their web site at: www.bart.gov/news/articles/2009/news20090623.aspx.

WHEELS Service

In the event BART service becomes unavailable, WHEELS will operate their regular service with their bus stops relocated outside of the BART station. A map of the alternate bus stop locations can be found at: www.hacienda.org/pdf/WheelsBARTStrikeStops2009.pdf. Hacienda employees and residents are eligible for a free WHEELS ECO Pass which allows you to ride on any WHEELS bus for free while working or living in Hacienda. To sign up for your free ECO Pass, simply follow this link: www.hacienda.org/forms/forms_order_pass.html.

Sign up for a Carpool

Carpooling will be an obvious choice for many BART riders in the event of a strike. 511 Rideshare can help employees get to work by helping them find a carpool or vanpool. Commuters are encouraged to use the free 511 RideMatch Service at http://rideshare.511.org/ridematch/. This interactive, on-demand program matches commuters with similar routes and schedules to find carpool partners or a vanpool group. Upon receiving your commute matches, simply contact the people on the list to make your arrangements. If you would like additional assistance, feel free to contact LaShawn Martin at 511 at: martin@rideshare.511.org or call (510) 273-3610 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm.
