TEMPORARY BART ALTERNATIVES

As you may be aware, BART is currently renegotiating their union labor contracts. As a result, there is a possibility that BART may experience an interruption to its services as early as Friday, October 11th. While BART may or may not serve your office directly, a strike will impact traffic throughout the Bay Area. Employees who depend on BART should make a contingency plan for an alternative commute arrangement as soon as possible.

Information Updates from BART

While BART is trying to avoid any work stoppages, there is a possibility of service interruption. BART wants its passengers to have the most up to date information about how the outcome of labor negotiations might impact their commute. BART commuters can sign up for email and text alerts on BART's website at: www.bart.gov/news/articles/2013/news20130617.aspx or visit www.bartlabornews.com for the latest information.

Information Updates from 511.org

511.org also has a dedicated area on their website with BART service information including transit options, bus bridges, carpooling services and more. Information helpful to employees and employers is available by visiting: www.alert.511.org/. Employers can find tips to help their employees at: www.alert.511.org/p/employer-tips.html and commuters can find helpful tips by visiting: www.alert.511.org/p/commuter-tips.html. This site is updated on a regular basis as information becomes available.

Bus Service

In the event BART service becomes unavailable, charter buses will run service from nine east bay BART stations, including Dublin/Pleasanton, to San Francisco. While the West Oakland station is a pick up location in the morning, other buses will not transfer at West Oakland during the morning commute into San Francisco. Maps of the bus stops are available at this link . Wheels will operate their regular service with their bus stops relocated outside of the BART station. Hacienda employees and residents are eligible for a free Wheels bus pass which allows you to ride on any Wheels bus for free while working or living in Hacienda. To sign up for your free pass, simply follow this link: www.hacienda.org/forms/forms_order_pass.html.

511 RideMatch Service

Ridesharing will be an obvious choice for many BART riders in the event of a strike. 511 Rideshare can help employees get to work by helping them find or start a carpool or vanpool. Commuters are encouraged to use the free 511 RideMatch Service at www.rideshare.511.org/. This online program matches commuters with similar routes and schedules to find carpool partners or a vanpool group. Upon receiving your commute matches, simply contact the people on the list to make your arrangements. You can also call 511 and say "Rideshare".
