Upcoming Presentations

Each year the East Bay Leadership Council provides several opportunities for the business community to engage on important topics through a series of three special presentations. Join the East Bay Leadership Council for this year's outstanding events:

  • East Bay USA Featuring Shannon Watts, January 26, 2023, 5:30 pm  - The East Bay Leadership Council commences the 2023 East Bay Leadership Series with an event featuring the Founder & CEO of Moms Demand Action, Shannon Watts. Watts is a mother of five who, the day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, started a Facebook group with the message to reduce gun violence. The online conversation turned into a nationwide grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that protect people from gun violence. Moms Demand Action, together with its partner, Everytown for Gun Safety, now has over 8 million supporters. Watts is an active board member of Emerge America, one of the nation's leading organizations for training women to run for office, and Advance Peace, a community-based organization that works to end cyclical and retaliatory gun violence in urban neighborhoods by investing in the development, health, and well-being of those at the center of the crisis. Through her discussion and Q&A, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about her experience leading a national advocacy organization, where the movement stands today, and what we can do to create an East Bay free of gun violence.

  • NAACP Legal Defense Fund Leader Sherrilyn Ifill, March 2 , 2023, 12:00 pm  - Join the East Bay Leadership Council for a conversation with Sherrilyn Ifill, the second woman to ever lead the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Ifill led the Legal Defense Fund from 2013-22, providing visionary and transformational leadership during one of the most consequential and intense moments in our nation’s history. Ifill has increased the visibility and engagement of the organization in litigating cutting-edge and urgent civil rights issues and elevating the organization’s decades-long leadership fighting voter suppression, inequity in education, and racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. At critical moments during national political and civil rights crises, Ifill’s voice and vision have powerfully influenced our national dialogue. Ifill is a frequent public commentator on racial justice issues, and a trusted advisor to civic and community leaders, national civil rights colleagues, and business leaders. Join the East Bay Leadership Council's online webinar to sit in on the discussion raising awareness of racial equity and voters' rights.

  • Future Speakers  - The third event in the EBLC series will take place in April with a panel discussion focusing on housing and homelessness in the greater East Bay region.
