Tri-Valley Teen Volunteers Offer Services, Opportunity to All

Committed volunteers are the key to any successful community event. Whether it's a Fishing Derby at Shadow Cliffs or a fundraising walk for a non-profit organization, there's a cast of volunteers that plays a crucial role. It's a role that's familiar to the members of the Tri-Valley Teen Volunteers, a group sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Alameda County.

The Tri-Valley Teen Volunteers, known to members as (TV)2, is composed of youths in grades seven to 12 who are available to help with a variety of events and other volunteer opportunities. Sometimes they do the work themselves and sometimes they help coordinate it.

"In addition to offering our services, we usually advertise the volunteer opportunities that we're supporting, with one or two of our kids acting as contact people," says Mark Duncanson, Tri-Valley Youth and Teen director for the Volunteer Center. "This way, they can learn the administrative skills associated with these events."

Recently, (TV)2 members assisted with a number of activities at the Children's Arts Festival as well as events like the Cesar Chavez Day Picnic and the Dublin Relay 4 Life.

There are a number of ways that Hacienda businesses can get involved with (TV)2.

"We like to involve companies with our service projects," says Duncanson. "They can join the Tri-Valley Teen Volunteers on that day or, if a company has researched a need for a service project, they can contact me and we can work on it together."

Businesses are also invited to sponsor the group's annual Community Service Awards, which award $250 to selected high school seniors and another $250 that goes to the student's favorite non-profit organization.

For more information on any of these programs, contact Mark Duncanson of the Volunteer Center at (925) 417-7094 or via e-mail at mduncanson@volunteeronline.org.
