Share the Spirit with the 2005 Hacienda Holiday Food Drive

Help spread some seasonal cheer by joining the Hacienda Holiday Food Drive, the park's annual event benefiting the Alameda County Community Food Bank. This year, Hacienda is joining with the Harbor Bay and Marina Village business parks in a friendly competition to see which community can collect the most food and cash donations, with an eye towards topping last year's combined total of 15,747 pounds of food.

[2005 Food Drive] The Food Bank, Alameda County's central clearinghouse for donated food, distributed 12 million pounds of food during the 2003-2004 fiscal year. The organization provides food assistance to an average of 120,000 people each month through its network of 280 community-based organizations.

In Pleasanton and Livermore, the Food Bank's partners include Interfaith Sharing, Inc., the Marylin Ave. School/Tri-Valley Community Fund, Open Heart Kitchen, Solidarity Fellowship, Tri-Valley Haven Food Pantry, and BACS/Valley Creative Living Center.

Participating in the Food Drive is simple. Businesses that wish to take part simply contact the Food Bank and a collection barrel will be dropped off at the location of their choice. After the event concludes on December 31, the donated food and the barrels will be picked up. The Food Bank can also provide a resource guide with tips on how to plan and promote the food drive within your business.

Hacienda will also have information on the location of barrels which will be available for donations from the general public.

Nutritious, non-perishable foods are preferred. Among the best items to donate are canned vegetables and fruit, canned meats and fish, pasta and tomato sauce, beans, rice, peanut butter, cereal and oatmeal, powdered milk, and nutritional beverages. Snack-sized packages of trail mix or raisins are also good choices for those who wish to benefit children with their gifts.

Businesses interested in participating are invited to contact Carrie Holt of the Alameda County Community Food Bank at (510) 635-3663, ext. 318, or via e-mail at . Additional information on the Food Bank is available on their web site at .
