Agilent Technologies Measures Up

Agilent Technologies is the world's premier measurement company and a technology leader in communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis. The company's two primary business segments, Bio-Analytical Measurement and Electronic Measurement, employ 19,000 people and serve customers in more than 110 countries.

Agilent provides the measurement capabilities that help make the world more productive and a safer, healthier, more enjoyable place to live. At Agilent's Hacienda office, 18 sales professionals and support staff from both of the company's main divisions serve customers throughout Northern California. Agilent products are available primarily through direct sales, but also through distributors, resellers, manufacturer's representatives, telesales and electronic commerce.

Each of the divisions, Electronic Measurement and Bio-Analytical Measurement, serves several diverse markets. Electronic Measurement business provides standard and customized electronic measurement instruments and systems, monitoring, management and optimization tools for communications networks and services, software design tools and related services. They are used in the design, development, manufacture, installation, deployment and operation of electronics equipment and communications networks and services.

Bio-Analytical Measurement focuses on life sciences and chemical analysis. Within life sciences, its primary market categories are pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, contract research organizations and contract marketing organizations; academic and government organizations. The company also serves the clinical diagnostic market, which it views as an area for strategic growth. Within chemical analysis, Agilent focuses on the petrochemical, environmental, homeland security and forensics, as well as the bioagriculture and food safety markets.

Primarily, Agilent Laboratories engages in two types of research: 1) applied research that leads to technology that can be transferred to its existing businesses in communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis, and 2) research that creates new businesses that are outside of Agilent's current markets but within its fields of interest.

The company's citizenship objective is to be an economic, intellectual and social asset to each nation and community where Agilent does business. In 2004, Agilent rocketed into the number nine spot on Business Ethics magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens list, acclaimed for its superior treatment of the community and diversity practices.
