Bicycling Popular with Employees at Hacienda Business Park

Bicycling as a form of commuter transportation is in first gear at Hacienda Business Park where park officials are trying to promote cycling among employees who live nearby.

According to business park Transportation Manager Karen Fraser-Middleton, transportation survey results so far show that roughly one quarter of the park employees live less than five miles from their jobs.

"That's a real incentive for cycling to work," she said. "Many of the tenants are also choosing to install showers in their buildings."

Bicycle racks are presently being installed throughout the park, she added.

Cycling is one transportation alternative that the Hacienda Business Park Owners Association is advocating as part of its transportation management program.

Already the Amador-Livermore Valley has the second highest number of bicycle commuters in Alameda County, according to the latest data released by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Berkeley ranks first with 2,323 bicycle commuters. Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore rank second and contribute 1,498 bicycle commuters to the total 7,245 people throughout the county who ride their bikes to work.
