A new state commercial recycling mandate is now in effect. The goal of this legislation is to divert solid waste from landfills, expand opportunities for recycling services in California and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

State Assembly Bill (AB) 341

Effective July 1, 2012, State Assembly Bill (AB) 341 will require businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multi-family units of five or more to arrange for recycling services involving the separation of recyclable material from solid waste. Affected commercial customers should contact Pleasanton Garbage Service to schedule a free consultation to assess recycling needs and establish regular recycling and waste collection services that comply with AB 341. Pleasanton's Commercial Recycling Program

The City of Pleasanton, through Pleasanton Garbage Service, currently provides a voluntary commercial recycling program. Currently, a free 96-gallon cart for co-mingled recyclables (mixed paper, plastic, aluminum/tin cans) is available for businesses. Other programs for paper and cardboard are also available. In the coming months, businesses and property managers will receive information about City efforts to establish a mandatory commercial recycling program that will replace the current voluntary program.
