
Under state and local law, businesses, nonprofits, and institutions in Alameda County must subscribe to a compost/organics and recycling collection service, sort right, and comply with several other requirements. StopWaste and Pleasanton Garbage Services (PGS) offer many resources to help businesses learn more about regulations concerning composting and offer assistance to help you comply. Pleasanton Businesses are encouraged to request the following free resources from StopWaste and Pleasanton Garbage Services:
StopWaste is a public agency serving the 1.7 million diverse residents of Alameda County. Formed in 1976, they work on behalf of 17 member agencies comprised of the County, 14 cities, and two sanitary districts; all committed to advancing environmental sustainability and building healthy, equitable, climate resilient communities in Alameda County. Here are just a few of the resources StopWaste has to offer.
Indoor green compost bins are available to businesses at no cost. StopWaste offers up to $500 for indoor green bins to collect food scraps, food-soiled paper, and plant material. Stickers to label indoor bins are available. Businesses may order two stickers for each bin so you can label both sides of the recycle, landfill, and compost bins. Stickers may be ordered at: www.stopwaste.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7b850d56d27c3c2ea70a34a23&id=74f63a8961&e=efcca3d8db.
StopWaste has designed pre-made wall signs for displaying above indoor bins which are available to order. Signs are designed to help staff and customers sort correctly. Wall signs may be downloaded at: www.stopwaste.co/signmaker#premade.

This guide offers information on how to sort through non-recyclable takeout items and how to properly sort your food scraps and other compostable materials. In addition, instructions are also provided for proper disposal of hazardous and toxic wastes.
PGS offers a free Waste Assessment to determine your organization’s garbage and recycling service needs. The assessment includes a free set-up and ongoing support.
