1st United Credit Union Celebrates 90 Years of Service

This year 1st United Credit Union celebrates 90 years of serving its members as a not-for-profit credit union that offers affordable financial services for individuals and banking and merchant services for small businesses. Employers can also offer the employee benefit of 1st United Credit Union services to their staff. Membership is available to anyone in California who lives, works, or attends school in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus, or Kings Counties.

The not-for-profit credit union exists to serve its members, following credit union cooperative principles. Members enjoy banking at 1st United Credit Union for a multitude of reasons, according to officials. As a not-for-profit, the institution reinvests profits back into the Credit Union, which enables it to offer affordable financial services with low fees and good rates while also providing the nationwide convenience that big banks offer. 1st United Credit Union gives back to the community in part by investing money and time where members work and live. The employees of 1st United Credit Union live, work, and volunteer in the communities they serve.

"We believe in being a good neighbor and giving back to our communities," says Sapna Nand, 1st United Credit Union's Pleasanton Branch Manager. "Whether it's by providing financial education, volunteering our time, or donating money, we embrace the Credit Union mission of people helping people. We also support local businesses by promoting them on social media and giving away gift cards to their businesses. We are here to support the Hacienda community and urge tenants to reach out if we can answer questions or help."

Earlier in the year, 1st United Credit Union was awarded a Top Workplaces 2022 honor by the San Francisco Chronicle. The Greater Bay Area Top Workplaces list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization,
including alignment, execution, and connection.

"We are so excited to receive the Top Workplace recognition for the fourth consecutive year," according to Lynell Fraley, Chief Human Resources Officer at 1st United Credit Union. "We want to continue to evolve 1st United so our staff can grow their careers, thrive, and be happy. The feedback we receive through the survey helps us to accomplish this, and winning the award is icing on the cake."

1st United Credit Union was founded in 1932 as one of the first credit unions in California. 1st United Credit Union has nine branches located throughout Alameda County. Its headquarters and the Pleasanton branch of the credit union are located in Hacienda, where the credit union has been a tenant since February 1999.
