Getinge Survey Shows Benefits of Flexible Workplaces

Getinge provides hospitals and life science institutions with products and solutions that aim to improve clinical results and optimize workflows. The offering includes products and solutions for intensive care, cardiovascular procedures, operating rooms, sterile reprocessing and life science. In 2021, Getinge North America introduced a flexible workplace program that provided all employees with the ability to adopt new levels of flexibility in remote work options.

The concept allows employees in positions eligible for working remotely to choose how often they want to work in-office and includes the option to work full time in office, partly at the office, or full time outside the office. Earlier this year, the company announced the results of a comprehensive survey of 400-plus employees that provides new insights about the impact and benefits of the flexible workplace program. A new study shows that the flexible workplace program is delivering significant cross-company benefits.

In the survey, over 400 employees in Getinge offices across Canada and the United States were asked to respond to several questions about their experience with the flexible work program that was implemented in March 2021. According to the results:

  • 82% of respondents "strongly agree" that working remotely has had a positive impact on their productivity;
  • 84% of respondents "strongly agree" that the ability to take more control over their work schedules and access remote work options has had a positive impact on their work-life balance; and,
  • 87% of respondents "strongly agree" they are well connected with their team when working remotely.

"While we expected employees to indicate that remote and flexible working had a positive impact on their work-life balance, we were very encouraged by the large percentage of employees who strongly agreed with this statement," according to  Alessandra Aguila, Vice President of Human Resources. "In addition, we were especially interested in insights about productivity and the ability of our team members to stay connected, and the results in these areas are also extremely positive. These results provide strong support for continued efforts to empower teams to leverage the flexible workplaces program and drive employee engagement."

Getinge employs over 10,000 people worldwide, with operations in more than 40 companies. The company's products include hospital practice-oriented monitoring systems and disposables that are used for diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients.
